Dozens of volunteer knitters, crocheters and sewing enthusiasts from Knitzvah — a beloved community program of Jewish Silicon Valley (JSV) — gathered for their annual “Knitzvah Big Sorting Day.” Volunteers sorted hundreds of handmade blankets, sweaters, hats, scarves, quilts, and toys, then loaded them into cars bound for delivery to 20 organizations serving vulnerable families and individuals across the Bay Area.
Knitzvah is a volunteer group of knitters, crocheters and sewing enthusiasts who create handmade items for people in need. For more than 21 years, Knitzvah has lived out its motto — “repairing the world one stitch at a time” — rooted in the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam. Today’s Big Sorting Day marked the group’s first gathering after a summer hiatus, as members reunited to sort and deliver months’ worth of handmade pieces just in time for winter.
The all-volunteer group led by Knitzvah Volunteer Chair Lynn Ann Levi, relies entirely on donated yarn and materials. Each year, thousands of handmade items are donated to organizations including Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley, Bill Wilson Center, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence, the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Home First, relief efforts for California wildfire and flood victims, and more.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center (APJCC) Auditorium, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos, Calif. 95032.
