New Neighborhood Will Feature 112 New Homes for Company Grade Officers and Their Families
FORT BENNING, GA / ACCESS Newswire / May 12, 2026 / Army leadership joined executives from The Michaels Organization to mark the beginning of a neighborhood redevelopment on base. The revitalized neighborhood, Norton Court, will feature 112 new townhomes for Company Grade Officers and their families.
“Today is a day to celebrate what the Army and The Michaels Organization are doing for those who call Fort Benning home,” said Garrison Commander, Col. Jerel ‘J.D.’ Evans. “These new homes are designed with families in mind and represent the strong commitment between how much this nation and its partners, including Michaels, care about our service members’ and families’ quality of life.”
Michaels has been a private-sector military housing partner for the Department of War since 2004 and has been the owner/operator of the privatized family housing at Fort Benning since 2021. The construction of the Norton Court neighborhood is part of Michaels’ out-year development plan. The new townhomes will replace 112 legacy townhomes built in the 1950s.
“Army families are relocating constantly, adapting at every turn, and building communities wherever their service takes them,” said Michaels Executive Vice President of Operations, Gen Bauer. “It’s our responsibility to ensure they have a quality home, well-maintained neighborhoods, and that they are in an environment where they feel supported from the day they get here.”
Designed by Urban Practice, a leading architecture and design firm based in Camden, NJ, the two-story townhouses, will feature fenced backyards and detached garages.
The three- and four-bedroom layouts and spacious 2,400+ square feet homes will emphasize comfort and functionality, offering high-quality finishes throughout, and beautifully appointed kitchens. The neighborhood will also feature community amenities, including a central park, gathering pavilion, and walking paths.
Norton Court is named in tribute to Captain John Henry “Jack” Norton of the 47th Infantry Regiment, who displayed extraordinary heroism in the face of enemy forces. He was stationed at Fort Benning and part of the training grounds were officially associated with the Norton name in 1925.
Fort Benning is home to the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, which includes the U.S. Army Infantry and Armor Schools. As such, it boasts some of the military’s most prestigious and rigorous leadership and functional schools and courses, while supporting a population of almost 70,000 Soldiers and civilians, annually.
“We are extremely grateful to the Army for their continued partnership and for trusting us with the development of this new neighborhood,” said Kevin Clarke, Vice President of Investment Management for The Michaels Organization. “Norton Court represents Michaels’ continued commitment to those who serve, and ensuring our military families have access to sustainable, high-quality housing for generations to come.”
The $58 million Norton Court development is financed through a $500 million development initiative across the Michaels Military Housing portfolio, which includes new construction and renovation efforts at multiple Army installations, including Fort Belvoir, Fort Benning, Fort Leavenworth, and others.
CBG Building Company is serving as the general contractor for the new Norton Court development, and Michaels Management will provide property management services. Construction is expected to be completed in May 2028.
